Four Models

ILO Living
Arrangements

Each arrangement is designed around your goals. We'll work with you to identify which model — or combination — fits your life best.

01 — Host Arrangement

Live with a Host

You move in with a carefully matched host — a family or individual who welcomes you into their home. Nesto Hub funds and coordinates the support, and you benefit from natural social connections and a homely environment.

Matched based on shared interests and compatibility Host receives training and ongoing support from Nesto Hub Ideal for participants seeking family-style living Great for those transitioning from family care
02 — Co-Residency

Live with a Co-Resident

A support person lives alongside you in the same home — they have their own life in the property while also providing the supports you need. More independence than a host arrangement, with consistent support close by.

Your own private space within a shared home Co-resident is employed and trained by Nesto Hub Ideal for participants wanting greater independence Supports can be formal and informal
03 — Shared Living

Choose Your Housemates

You choose to live with other people in a shared home — whether that's friends, peers from the disability community, or people you've been matched with. Nesto Hub provides the funded support to make it all work.

You have real choice in who you live with Support workers visit on a rostered schedule Cost-effective — costs can be shared between residents Purpose-designed or participant-selected homes
04 — Independent Living + Support

Your Own Place, Your Rules

You live in your own home — rented, owned, or in social housing — and Nesto Hub provides tailored drop-in support to help with daily tasks, routines, and anything else you need.

Maximum independence and personal control Support hours tailored to your NDIS plan Ideal for participants close to full independence Combination of paid and natural supports

Frequently Asked

ILO Questions
Answered

Who is eligible for ILO?
ILO is available to NDIS participants who have disability support needs that require living assistance. You need an active NDIS plan with relevant funding, typically under Core Supports — Assistance with Daily Life. ILO is suitable for participants of all ages and disability types, including complex physical needs, psychosocial disability, ABI, autism, and intellectual disability. Talk to your Support Coordinator or our intake team to confirm eligibility based on your current plan.
How is ILO different from SIL (Supported Independent Living)?
SIL (now called Supported Independent Living in the NDIS) typically refers to group home-style living where multiple participants share a home with rostered staff. ILO is a broader framework that includes more flexible arrangements like host living, co-residency, and individual living with support. ILO is generally more person-centred and offers greater choice over who you live with and how supports are delivered. Nesto Hub offers both models, and we'll recommend whichever is the best fit for you.
How quickly can ILO be arranged?
For standard ILO arrangements, the Explore and Design phase can take 2–8 weeks depending on complexity. For urgent situations — such as hospital discharge, carer breakdown, or crisis placement — Nesto Hub can often arrange transitional accommodation within 24–72 hours, transitioning to a more tailored ILO arrangement once things are stable. Call us directly for urgent cases: 1300 066 822.
Can I choose who I live with?
Yes — choice and control is the core principle of ILO. In host and co-residency arrangements, Nesto Hub facilitates a matching process based on your preferences, interests, and support needs. In shared living, you can choose your housemates. For independent living with support, it's entirely your own space. We never place someone in a home without their genuine informed consent and involvement in the decision.
Does Nesto Hub support complex care needs in ILO?
Yes. Nesto Hub has extensive experience supporting participants with high-intensity clinical needs in ILO settings — including PEG feeding, tracheostomy care, subcutaneous injections, catheter care, and complex bowel management. All complex care placements include a Free Registered Nurse as part of our clinical governance framework, at no additional cost to participants or their families.
